WYFC Boys U16
Manager: Ben Thorne
Coaches: Matt Pye, Phil Dixon
Welcome to U16's Worthy home page, having been formed at the beginning of the 2014/2015 season, bringing together some established Worthy’s players with quite a few new payers to the club, some of whom had played very little football before, and never played for a team.
Last year was our third season together as a team, and we are very proud of what the players achieved. The U15 whole approach to football is to focus on helping players to develop their skills and equally importantly, enjoy playing the game. The emphasis is very much on team spirit and inclusivity - from day one we have made sure that everybody who is available for a match gets to play, regardless of skill or experience. While this does mean we don’t always play the most ‘competitive’ team we could for the whole each match, it has given every player a great opportunity to grow their skills, experience and confidence, as well as building a fantastic team spirit. The feedback we have had from the players and parents has been brilliant, win, lose or draw they always enjoy playing.
We are also very lucky to have some great parents supporting the team, with a regular supply of oranges and Haribo to keep up energy levels. There are always plenty of volunteers to help clear things away or set up.
We train every Monday at 1830 until 2000 with a match being played on a Saturday morning. During the autumn and winter months we use Worthy Down Army Camp's Astro pitch under floodlights. In the spring and summer months we train at Eversley Park in Kings Worthy.
As a coaching team we are very proud of how much the team have developed over last season together, both as individual players and as a team. Last season we took home again the trophy for fair play, the award from the league which is a real credit to the attitude and approach of every single player in the team. Following on from a great first season, we are now looking forwards to the 2017 / 2018 season.
